The speed of the Greene County boys hoops team was too much for the Saydel Eagles as the Rams topped the winless Eagles 69-29 in Saydel Monday.
The Eagles played methodical basketball, but from the start they weren’t a match for the fast-paced play Ram fans have enjoyed this season. The Rams were up 19-5 after one quarter and 42-14 at the intermission. The Rams flirted with the 35 point lead needed for a continuous clock in the third quarter, but it wasn’t until a minute into the fourth when the Rams held a 61-25 lead that the clock kept moving.
Trey Tucker led the Rams in scoring with 26 points, including one 3-pointer and four of four free throws. He did not play most of the fourth quarter. Trey Hinote scored 18 points including two long baskets, and Wade Adcock scored 13 points with one 3-point basket. Senior reserve player Anthony Jacobsen scored four points, all of them from the free throw line in the last few minutes of the game. Calvin Skalla, Thomas Jacobsen and Logan Lansman and Jordan Patterson scored two points each.
The Rams shot at 45 percent from the floor, making 20 of 36 2-point shots and four of 17 3-point shots. They made 17 of 30 free throws for 57 percent. The Rams cleaned up their ball handling, committing eight turnovers. Their 25 turnovers Friday against the Nevada Cubs contributed to that loss.
The Eagles shot just four free throws and made two of them. They made six of 20 2-point shots and five of 15 3-point shots for 31 percent. The Eagles committed 18 turnovers.
The Rams are now 11-3 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and 12-6 overall. They take a 6-0 record for conference road games as they go to Gilbert for a Mega Night Tuesday. The Eagles are 0-15 in the conference and 0-19 overall.
